The kit: model and size
The Tetra Glass and Tetra Hybrid share the same frame geometry across the standard sizes, and custom sizes are available on request.

Glass and panels
Pick the glass for the view, the climate, and the privacy you want — or mix glass with insulated panels on the Tetra Hybrid.

Foundation and site
The foundation is part of your project, not the kit. Foundation guidelines come with the kit.

Which costs more, the Tetra Glass or the Tetra Hybrid?
At the same size, the Tetra Glass and Tetra Hybrid kits start at the same price, so the choice comes down to how you'll use the dome. The Tetra Glass is fully glazed for the panoramic views; the Tetra Hybrid mixes glass viewing areas with insulated solid panels for privacy and easier climate control. Size and configuration are what move the price: add-ons like insulation panels, tinted glass, wood-grain aluminum finishes, or HVAC prep adjust it, and every project is confirmed by quote.
What is included in a dome kit?
At The Dome House, every kit comes complete with a pre-welded aluminum frame, double-pane tempered glass panels, a door (yes, a real one—not a zipper flap), and your pick of window options. You can go full-glass for the panoramic views or mix things up with wood-grade aluminum panels and insulation panels. Many other optional upgrades exist such as ventilation units, HVAC preparation, & much more.
Can I order a custom size?
Yes. Custom sizes are available on request, alongside the standard sizes on our Dome Kit Sizes page. A custom size is quoted for your project, and its production and delivery schedule is confirmed when you order.
What site prep does a dome need?
Most customers build on a pier foundation with a wood deck, and a concrete slab is also an option, with engineering plans available for both. If the dome will have a bathroom or kitchen, plumbing rough-in happens at the foundation stage, like any small structure. Before ship day, confirm unloading equipment and truck access to your site: road width, grade, and turning room.
How are dome kits delivered?
Flat-packed by freight to your site or nearest accessible point, with all framing components, panels, fasteners, and the installation guide. Shipping is free within the contiguous U.S. because freight is included in the kit price; Alaska, Hawaii, and international delivery are quoted separately. How does installation work?
Every kit comes with a step-by-step installation manual and videos, written for a DIY crew or a local contractor. Most customers use a small team or a local contractor and finish the shell in a few days. If you'd rather not do it yourself, installation support is available and quoted with your project.
What do the engineering documents cover?
Stamped engineering documentation for permitting, with wind and snow-load details, is available nationwide and scoped to your site and jurisdiction. Requirements depend on your state and county, so check with your local building department early. Tell us where you're building and what the jurisdiction wants, and we'll quote the kit and documentation together.
How do utilities work in a dome house?
Our domes can be insulated, wired, and plumbed just like a standard home, with interior walls, flooring, and utilities finished by your builder. They work on the grid or off it: the kits are compatible with solar panels, HVAC systems, and off-grid setups. In hotter climates, mirrored or tinted glazing plus an HVAC unit keeps the interior comfortable.
How well insulated are the domes?
The glass is double-pane, tempered, and U-value rated, and the Tetra Hybrid adds solid insulated panels with an optional polyurethane layer, which makes it the stronger cold-climate choice. For full builds, spray foam or rigid board insulation adapts best to the dome's angles, and proper floor insulation helps the dome hold heat in winter and stay cool in summer.
Do you work on multi-dome projects?
Yes. For multi-unit projects we can advise on dome selection, unit spacing, and utility planning during quoting, and resort projects are confirmed by quote. Most multi-unit developments build on the Tetra Hybrid for its insulation and privacy, with one or two Tetra Glass units as the premium tier, and phased purchasing is normal. Bring your site plan and we'll work through it together.
Can I finance a dome house?
Financing varies by location. Traditional mortgages may not apply to off-grid or unconventional builds, so some customers bundle the dome into a land and construction loan or use owner-builder financing. It's worth checking with a local lender familiar with modular or alternative housing.
