Event Dome Rental Cost: What Shapes the Price of Renting a Geodesic Dome
Event dome rentals are quoted per project because the price depends on more than the dome. This guide explains what a rental quote covers, which choices move the total, and what to send so your first quote is accurate.

In short
Renting an event dome means paying for the dome itself (the structure and its cover) plus the services around it: delivery, installation, and strike and removal. The size, your location and dates, the site, the cover, and any upgrades shape the total. Renting typically costs about a third of buying, and there’s nothing to store.
What a rental quote covers
A rental quote has two parts. The rental itself is the dome structure and its cover. Around it sit the quoted services that get the dome onto your site and back off it: delivery, installation, and strike and removal.
Anything beyond the dome is quoted per event: flooring, printed branding, lighting, climate control, projection, sound and AV, and technical staffing. A simple rental stays simple, and a production-heavy event adds exactly what it needs.
Size: the choice that shapes everything else
Standard event domes run from 20 to 90 ft in diameter. The right size follows the program: how many guests, the layout (theater, banquet, reception, or a mix), and what else needs floor space, such as a stage, a bar, catering, or a product display.
Size also shapes the work around the rental. A larger dome is more structure to deliver, install, and remove, and it needs more working room on site. Event dome sizes compares every standard size with planning notes.
Location, dates, and how long you need it
Rentals are quoted by location and date across the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, where extra shipping and lead time apply. International projects are reviewed case by case.
Your dates matter twice: we confirm the dome is available for them, and the setup and removal windows you can offer shape how installation is scheduled. How long you need the dome is part of the quote too, so include the full span from installation to removal.
The site
A site that’s ready for installation keeps the quote straightforward. Every dome needs:
- A level surface, indoor or outdoor
- Access for delivery vehicles and installation equipment
- Working room around the dome for installation; larger domes can need 20 ft or more
- Indoors: enough clearance and room for lift equipment during installation
- Power for lighting, climate, and AV options
- Anchoring or ballast as set by the engineering for your site
Covers and upgrades
Covers come in clear, translucent, blackout, and printed and branded finishes, with interior liners and additional options depending on the project. The cover sets the look of the room: clear for sky views and evening light, blackout for projection and controlled lighting, printed for sponsors and activations.
Printed and branded covers are available on rentals, and they’re reusable for repeat or multi-city use, so a touring program or an annual event can keep its look from one date to the next.
Upgrades are quoted per event: flooring, printed branding, lighting, climate control, projection, sound and AV, and technical staffing. List the ones you already know you need when you ask for a quote.
Engineering, permits, and paperwork
Permitting documentation and engineering are available in all 50 states. Anchoring and project documents depend on the engineering and the specific job. Flame-retardancy documentation (NFPA 701 / CPAI-84) is available from the fabric vendor. Local and state requirements vary, so the applicable documentation is provided and confirmed during quoting.
Permit and inspection requirements, and any fees, are set by the local jurisdiction and the property, so start that conversation early. The outdoor event structure checklist lists public examples, and engineering and permits explains how documentation works for our domes.
Renting versus buying
Renting typically costs about a third of buying, and there’s nothing to store. Rent for a date or a season: one launch, festival, or celebration, with delivery, installation, and removal scheduled around it.
Buying starts to make sense when the same dome comes back on your calendar again and again (a recurring series, a touring program, a seasonal venue) and becomes infrastructure instead of a line item. Every standard size can be purchased or rented, so compare event domes for sale when you’re weighing it.
Quote factors
What moves an event dome rental quote
The factors behind every rental quote, and what to tell us about each one.
| Factor | What it covers | What to send us |
|---|---|---|
| Dome size | The structure and its cover, and the work to deliver, install, and remove it | Headcount, layout, and what happens inside |
| Location | Delivery to your site; extra shipping and lead time apply to Alaska and Hawaii | The site address, or the city if the venue isn’t set |
| Dates and duration | Availability for your dates, and the setup and removal windows | Event dates, plus the windows you have for setup and removal |
| Site conditions | Surface, access, working room, and anchoring or ballast | Indoors or outdoors, the surface, and any access limits |
| Cover | Clear, translucent, blackout, or printed and branded, with liners if needed | The look you want and the time of day |
| Upgrades | Flooring, branding, lighting, climate control, projection, sound and AV, staffing | Anything beyond the dome you know you’ll need |
| Paperwork | Engineering and permitting documentation for your site | Local requirements, if you know them |
Every rental is quoted per project; these factors set the total.
Choosing
When a tent is the better buy
A dome isn’t the cheapest way to cover a space, and it doesn’t need to be. Here’s the honest split.
A local tent is the better answer when
- You need shade or rain cover for a short, casual event
- A standard frame or pole tent in your size is available locally
- The look of the structure doesn’t matter to the event
- Budget decides it and the site already has what you need
A dome rental earns its place when
- The structure is part of the experience, and guests will remember the room
- You want an open, column-free interior for staging, dining, or projection
- A branded cover or projection turns the structure into the message
- The program repeats, so a reusable branded cover pays back
